We’re looking for 12 bikes for our stand at the Bristol Classic Motorcycle Show which takes place at the Royal Bath and West Showground, Shepton Mallet on the 2nd and 3rd February 2019.
We understand that the Wessex V&V Section will not be having a stand in 2019, but as many members attend both Sections, it would be good to have some of the earlier bikes on our stand; maybe we could have bikes from all decades.
We’re not just looking for showroom condition bikes. Far from it, we’d love to have some well used vintage and classic machines on our stand…you can even bring your own drip trays. It will be February, so leave the mud on them.
If you can hep at all, please get in touch with Ray Dickinson. His details are on the Contacts page.
A fantastic range of bikes turned up at Hinton St. Mary’s village hall for yesterday’s Last of the Summer Wine run. Bob Hoare tells me 36 people signed on.
The awards were:
Landlords Cup – John Brittain – Triumph Tiger 100ss
Classic Cup – Roland Brittain – BSA Super Rocket
Foreign Shield – Mike Gardiner – Honda 250
Girder Fork Tankard – Rodney Hann – Sunbeam Model 9
Three wheeler Cup – Ian Clarke – Morgan Aero
Rudge Plaque – Vernon Cox – Rudge Ulster
Many thanks to Bob for organising the run, and to all those helpers providing teas, coffees, biscuits and cakes — I can confirm that the carrot cake was particularly good! And also to John Adams and Pete Dungey for manning the recovery vehicle + trailer, which I believe, was not needed.
Carol and Rod Hann have just returned from the excellent Cornwall Section Rally Week. Report from Rod:
Members from that Section did our Weymouth Week several times and liked the idea so I persuaded them to do a similar event in Cornwall. They have now done around seven such events and splendid they are. Glorious scenery, superb coastal rides, and plenty of nice places to visit. Average mileage per day is around 80/100 but this can be altered at will. All done in a very friendly and welcoming way. This year there were around 50/60 entrants plus a few more joining us from the Cornwall Section on a daily basis. Many of the Section members turn out to marshal at all the assailant places.
A pleasant 30 mile run yesterday for many Dorset Section members who took part in this Wessex V&V Section event. The route took us around the lanes of Stourton Caundle, Bishop’s Caundle, Caundle Marsh, Glanvilles Wootton and King’s Stag with a coffee stop at Folke Golf Centre in Alweston.
I’ll be returning to the Virginia Ash pub this morning to clean up their car park. My Ariel is in disgrace; the primary chain oiler seems to have gone haywire.
Don’t forget our own Last of the Summer Wine run next Sunday 16th September at 11am from Hinton St. Mary; details here. And our Club Night this Wednesday 12th September at 7:30pm when Mike Spencer will talk about Iceland; details here.
