DESCRIPTION:The Dorset section are pleased to announce the inaugural staging of their off-road event- \nThe Dorset Dakar! \nDesigned to be a gentle-ish introduction to riding trails and very much with the novice rider in mind\, you are invited to join us for 10.00am (with an 11:00am departure) on Saturday 17th September at Compton Abbas Airfield Café. Riders will be sent off in buddy pairs with the route comprising a mixture of on and off-road sections (several novice volunteers\, riding a variety of bikes\, have already tested this run\, fear not!)\, with part-way refreshments provided by Dorset section and finishing at the Fox and Goose pub in Coombe Bissett for a well-earned drink! \nThe outward route is approximately 28 miles\, with a number of bail-out points should you decide it’s all too much and would rather head straight to the pub finish. The return route can be the reverse or\, if you prefer\, there is a picturesque road route from Coombe Bissett back to the start via the Ebble valley taking in Broad Chalke\, West End\, Alvediston and Berwick St John. \nPlease\, carry on and read the FAQs and the Do’s and Don’t below\, but if you decide you would like to take part in this event\, we would like to get an idea of expected numbers\, so please email the Secretary@dorsetvmcc.co.uk. \nFinally\, this event is subject to good weather.  If it rained all the previous week\, some of the tracks would be very muddy.  So please do check this website before turning up at the airfield of the 17th. \nFAQs: \nDo I need to be an experienced off-roader to participate?  Absolutely not! We encourage riders of all abilities to have a go and it is aimed at novices. A lot of the off-road section is over well-surfaced trails and any really tricky sections can usually be crossed walking alongside your bike\, if necessary. \nDo I need a pukka off-road bike? We feel that any lighter weight road bike with reasonable ground clearance should be able to participate with care. Of course\, trail-type machines remain the ideal choice. Feel free to ask the run organisers for their advice. \nIs it a race?  Absolutely NOT! The idea is for members to enjoy an off-road riding experience\, taking as much time as necessary to complete the course\, or as much of it as they feel comfortable with. \nHow many routes are there? There is only one route for 90% of the run. However\, the final part of the run (3 miles) splits into three final sections depending on your skill level: Beginner (tarmac)\, Intermediate (rough ground) or Expert (ford and narrow\, overgrown hill climb). \nWill there be a route sheet? At the start\, the OS Map 184 (Landranger Series) will be available for inspection. In addition\, the route will be marked on the morning of the run with triangle direction markers. SatNav GPX files will also be available. \nDo I need a VMCC eligible bike to take part?  It is preferred but not essential. \nCan family and friends watch?  Of course\, the route is clearly marked and everyone is welcome to join in at the pub. \nDoes my bike need to be Taxed and Insured?  Yes. All the byways and roads are classed as public roads\, so your bike needs to be legal. \nCan I park my trailer / van / motorhome at the start?  We hope so\, but we do not yet have permission to do this.  Please check back here nearer the time. \nDo’s and Don’ts \n\nDo be courteous to other trail users\nDo give way to all other trail users\nDo wear appropriate clothing\nDo stop and take lots of photographs\nDo enjoy our en-route hospitality\nDo fill up with petrol beforehand (nearest petrol is in Barford St Martin SP3 4AD)\nDo provide your own recovery as the Section is unable to help. Breakdown recovery vehicles will not be able to access certain parts of the route. It is suggested you ride in buddy pairs.\nDon’t speed along- it’s not a race\nDon’t have an excessively loud exhaust- it irritates other trail users

DESCRIPTION:Dear friends\n\n \nThis month it’s the section AGM and we’d appreciate your attendance on Wednesday the 12th October\, at the Halsey Arms. This is a necessary mechanism to help ensure the continued smooth running of your section and presents an ideal opportunity for you to ask the committee any questions you might have and indeed\, the chance to help make Dorset section even better. \nYour committee are always working hard on your behalf to provide runs\, club events and shows for you to enjoy\, but we are always open to new ideas. To that end\, at the AGM we will be electing (or in some cases\, re-electing) a Chairperson\, Secretary\, Treasurer and members of the committee\, both existing and new. Should you feel able\, we would welcome new faces around the committee table (which only meets typically twice\, or three times a year)\, to help refresh our thinking and plans. \nIf being on a committee seems too daunting\, perhaps you might volunteer to help organise one of our many riding events\, or help assist on the day with our major commitments\, such as the GIANTS run\, or Bristol show; we are always happy to see a volunteer\, as opposed to volunteering someone! Prospective run organisers are especially welcome\, I’d like to see at least two new ROs every year; people have different ideas of what constitutes a ‘good’ run\, be it faster or slower roads\, over a longer or shorter distance\, with cake stops\, or without (the horror)\, it’s up to you. Experienced run organisers would be more than happy to help you find your feet and you will be making a difference for your friends at section level. SUMMARY:New Year's Day Run
DESCRIPTION:New Year’s Day Run\nWe will again be holding our New Year’s Day Run in conjunction with the Sturminster Newton New Year’s Day Vintage and Classic Vehicle Run.  The event\, which is sponsored by Harts of Stur\, is a charity event benefitting the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance. \nVehicles entering the main event are required to pre-book and are expected to arrive and be on display in the Station car park at Sturminster Newton from 9.00am.  The run usually attracts an assortment of very interesting cars and it is well worth wandering round to see the vehicles and chat to the owners.  The planned departure for the cars to take part in a scenic run is from 11am. \nVMCC Members and friends who wish to take part in the VMCC Dorset Section’s Run usually arrive from 10am\, but come earlier should you wish.  Bikes should be parked on the pavement in Station Road opposite the Poets Corner Cafe. (Please do not park in the Hansons Fabrics and Crafts car park).  You will be asked to sign-on on the day and for a minimum charity donation of £5 to place your motorcycle on display and/or go on the run.  In return you will receive a voucher from sponsors\, Harts of Stur\, to the value of £5 to be spent in the store.  Participants on the run are expected to leave from 10.45am; fifteen minutes before the cars. \nThe Run will follow a scenic route from the Poets Corner Cafe to The Halsey Arms at Pulham.  The route has not yet been fixed but a distance of some 35 miles is proposed; the direct main road route\, should we have bad weather\, is 8 miles.  Whether on the run or socialising we hope you will join us at The Halsey.  The pub is offering carvery meals at £13.95 for the standard portion and £11.95 for a smaller portion; the vegetarian option is £7.95.  If you would like a meal please book in advance.  I will have a booking form available at our club night buffet evening this coming Wednesday.  If not attending the buffet\, please telephone\, 01258 721356\, or email\, corgiking@aol.com\, and let me know your requirements. \nThere are three flyers attached (below) with more details on the event. \nPeter Miller \n01 Flyer \n02 Flyer \n03 Flyer

DESCRIPTION:The Blandford Run takes place on Sunday 2nd April and will commence from the Corn Exchange in the Market Place at Blandford Forum. \nThe run starts at 11am and free tea or coffee and biscuits will be available for club members from approximately 10am within the shambles area of the Corn Exchange.  Dorset Council has introduced charges on Sundays for all car parks under their management\, including the Blandford Market Place. Please park within the area defined by the bollards immediately in front of the Corn Exchange. \nThe outward route covers 44.9 miles to a lunch stop at the Witchampton and Critchel Club\, where a roast dinner will be available for £11.95; a room behind the bar has been allocated for our use. Please tell the run organiser at the start of the run if you would like lunch so that the Club can be informed of likely numbers. We hope that snack meals will also be available. The afternoon run\, of 12 miles\, takes us back to Blandford via an ice cream parlour for those wishing to purchase an ice cream or enjoy a walk along the river. \nThe Section is asking for a contribution of £3 towards run expenses. \n
