He has recently written a book on  ‘ Tuners of the Golden Age of Motorcycling’ and will be using this as the basis for his talk. \nIf you enjoy the evening he will have copies of his book for sale\, all proceeds going to the TT Riders Association. \nShould be a very interesting evening.

SUMMARY:Weymouth Run and Week : South Dorset Section
DESCRIPTION:Weymouth Run 2017\nAgenda below for the South Dorset Section’s 2024 Weymouth Run and Week. \nSunday’s Run starts at 10:30am\, while the runs on Monday to Friday start at 10:00 from Bagwell Farm\, Chickerell\, DT3 4EA.  If you would rather join the riders at the first coffee stop\, assume that would be about one hour later. i.e. be at the Hambro Arm’s\, Milton Abbas at 11am for the Monday run etc etc. \n  \nVMCC – South Dorset Section\nResume’ of planned rides for the Weymouth Run and Week -2024 \nSunday 12th May – The Weymouth Run starts proceedings for the week and this year we have returned to our original venue on the Promenade at the Jubilee Clock\, by kind permission of the Town Council. Leave the site as directed by the marshalls as we head south before making a ‘U’ turn to go back along the seafront before we head inland\, the route includes some of the original route used in 1968. Our first coffee stop will be at The Rainbow Garage Cafe. We next travel east and then south to the coast where spectacular views abound. The views continue as we traverse the army firing ranges of Lulworth before dropping down to Lulworth Cove for our lunch stop. There are plenty of places to get refreshments and do make time to walk down to the Cove. A shortish ride will take us to the Owermoigne Garden Centre where the afternoon tea stop has been arranged. After tea a short hop back to the Weymouth Pavilion to conclude this ride. A nice easy day to break you in gently. Total mileage = 67.6 miles. \nMonday 13th May – This morning’s ride heads northeast enjoying good views as we go. We are going to the familiar village of Milton Abbas for coffee at the Hambro Arms. This village is always worth a visit and specially to see the school and abbey as we approach the village. A further gentle route of 19 miles will take us on to Gillingham for a lunch stop at the Moto Corsa Cafe where a few choice motorcycles will be on display. A 20 mile ride across the Blackmore Vale will take us to Glanvilles Wootton Village Hall where a group of ladies will provide us with tea and cakes. Please consume and contribute as all proceeds will go to support a local church. Having taken your fill a ride south of 18 miles will take us back to Bagwell Farm. Along the A352 as you enter the village of Cerne Abbas the famous Cerne Giant is visible on the hill to your left. The longest ride of the week. Total mileage = 88.5 miles. \nTuesday 14th May – Today we head east once more as we go to The Walled Garden at Moreton for our coffee stop. Next door is the cemetery where Lawrence of Arabia was laid to rest. Take a few moments to visit his grave if you wish. Next we travel further east to Upton Park. This is owned and maintained by Poole Council. There are lots to see and a nice cafe for use as our lunch stop. Returning west we next visit the stately home of Athlehampton House. In the Long Gallery afternoon tea will be served. Back then through Weymouth to return to Bagwell Farm. Total mileage = 77.4 miles. \nWednesday 15th May – Travelling west today a route of 21 miles will take us along the coast road before heading inland to the Stableyard Cafe at Broadwindsor for our coffee\nPage two\nstop. Still travelling west we will pass a viewing spot at Pilsden Pen. This hill is the tallest in Dorset at 994 feet. Onwards we go till reaching Lyme Regis where lunch can be taken. Spend a bit of time looking around this historic old town. Next we head east until we get to West Bay. Always a favourite of motorcyclist from miles around and well worth a visit\, The ice creams and teas are pretty good too. After which a return along the coast road will lead everyone back to Bagwell Farm. Total mileage 71.4 miles. \nThursday 16th May – Today we travel northeast once more as we travel across some real rural Dorset countryside. Once more wonderful views abound as we go to Winterborne Whitechurch and the Crafty Barn Cafe for our coffee stop. More nice views as we go further northwards and on to Pimperne and to Lo’s Cafe for our lunch stop. Also on site there is a fitness centre should you wish to shed some of the excesses of the week so far. Now fit and rearing to go once more we travel back across the county and go to Charminster and to the Three Compasses Inn. This is the home of the South Dorset Section and the landlords\, Rob and Tina\, will supply you with tea and cakes. Just a hop of 11 miles\, back over Hardy’s Monument\, will lead you back to Bagwell Farm. Total mileage = 82.1 miles. \nFriday 17th May – The last day so we have a shorter route to round off our weeks riding. Another run along the coast road (well you can never get too much of our coast road) before we turn inland and we will visit the Kingcombe Centre. The cafe here is our coffee stop. This is an interesting place to visit. The farm here has always been farmed organically for centuries. It is now used for educational purposes and for holiday lets to allow its visitors to appreciate the natural wildlife and the flora and fauna. Next more nice views as we head over the hills to Leigh and stop at the Hann’s residence. Here a free buffet lunch will be provided and there might be a few rusty bikes to be inspected. After lunch we will do a straight run back to Bagwell Farm and the finish. Total mileage = 61.2 miles. \nWe hope you have enjoyed your week touring around Dorset and we are planning to do similar things next year. We would be delighted if you could join us once more. DESCRIPTION:DORSET DAKAR DAWDLE\n \nRead carefully prior to registering for the event. \nWelcome Ladies and Gentlemen to the 2024 Dorset Dakar Dawdle. Our objective is to create a gentle social Green Lane run with ample catering opportunities. \nFORMAT\n\nWe start at Compton Abbas Airfield\, gates open at 9-30am with the first bikes away at 11am.\nThe Café and the Tea/Coffee Cabin are available and entrants will receive a voucher for a free Tea/Coffee at the Cabin upon Signing On and after reading the Health & Safety brief.\nHalf way along the route there will be a pop up Café with more Tea/Coffee and Cake. This is free but donations to the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance will be MOST WELCOME.\nAt the end of our run\, you arrive at the Fox and Goose Inn at Coombe Bisset\, where naturally a wide range of refreshments are available.\n\nRULES\n\nEntry numbers are limited to 50\, so you must reserve your place by registering below.\nThe entry fee is £8 for everyone and is payable at Sign On. If you are not a VMCC member\, there is an additional charge of £5 for day membership — if you don’t want to pay this\, make sure you bring your VMCC membership card to the event!\nCheck your insurance has no restrictions relating to Green Lane usage; our route is made of country tarmac lanes and unsurfaced lanes with right of way for all vehicles.\nYour motorcycle must be at least 25 years old.\nMake sure you have a riding buddy. We insist on this as we start you in pairs and you will mutually assist each other in the event of any unforeseen incidents.\nYou do not require a specialist off road machine; the scruffy old Bantam in the back of the shed will do just fine. There is a trivial award for the most unsuitable machine completing the run.\nMake sure you Sign Off at the Fox and Goose Inn!\n\nTHIS IS NOT A RACE!\n\nRide slowly. Stop look at the views\, chat with fellow riders and importantly be polite to all the other users of the Green Lanes\, they have a right to be there too.\nDue to the terrain\, we are unable to offer support in any form\, so obtain an OS Landranger map 184\, charge your phone\, fettle your motorcycle\, check its tool kit\, select your riding buddy\, AND be responsible.\nThere will be mud\, gravel\, very uneven surfaces and water (possibly deep!) at the Stratford Tony ford and many of the junctions require extreme caution.\nThe route will be marked with coloured flags. Signage on two occasions will give you an option between an easy route or a slightly more challenging one\, select according to your level of experience (no awards for heroics). We cannot guarantee that the markers have not been tampered with so refer to your OS 184 map and the route map on view at the start.\n\nFINALLY\nNow plea to your chosen deity for good weather\, primarily DRY\, take it easy and have fun. After you have relaxed and lunched at the Fox & Goose\, the options are all yours. If you need to return to the airfield\, you may retrace the route or opt for tarmac. There is an alternative route along the Ox Drove track which is less pleasant and you will be entirely on your own. \nCompton Abbas Airfield has kindly allowed us to use their car park and some parking for vans and trailers will be available at the east end of said park; please support their Cafe and or the Tea/Coffee Cabin. \nAny profits the event makes will go to the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance\, the greater part of which is usually generated by our pop up Cafe at midpoint. \nHaving studied all the above\, please register promptly. DESCRIPTION:Note: this run is on a Saturday and starts at 9:00am for 9.30. Full details from Paul Swaddle as follows. \nThe White Horse Run – This spirited ride takes us along some of the most glorious and beautiful motorcycling roads Dorset and Wiltshire have to offer. \nMeeting at the Udder Farm Shop Cafe at 9am\, then heading out towards Salisbury around 9.30am\, we take a quick break at Old Sarum airfield cafe before heading into the depths of Wiltshire to witness the majestic splendour of two of its most ancient white horses set into its chalk hillsides. Said to represent innocence and purity\, be a symbol of good fortune\, or even represent prosperity\, what more positive vibes does your average classic motorcyclist need to speed them on their way? (Twice!) \nAt the mid point\, we break at Pewsey for lunch at one of the many cafes this picturesque town has to offer. After this\, we take in the 2nd horse of the day\, more stunning roads and views before having the opportunity (for those that want to) to ride roads exactly as they were when some of our older machines were first produced. We then head back to the Udder Farm Shop to finish the day.
