Riders will be sent off in buddy pairs with the route comprising a mixture of on and off-road sections (several novice volunteers\, riding a variety of bikes\, have already tested this run\, fear not!)\, with part-way refreshments provided by Dorset section and finishing at the Fox and Goose pub in Coombe Bissett for a well-earned drink! \nThe outward route is approximately 28 miles\, with a number of bail-out points should you decide it’s all too much and would rather head straight to the pub finish. The return route can be the reverse or\, if you prefer\, there is a picturesque road route from Coombe Bissett back to the start via the Ebble valley taking in Broad Chalke\, West End\, Alvediston and Berwick St John. \nFinally\, this event is subject to good weather.  If it rained all the previous week\, some of the tracks would be very muddy.  So please do check this website before turning up at the airfield of the 8th. \nThe Section is asking for a contribution of £5 towards run expenses. \nNow\, read the FAQs below\, followed by the Dos and Don’ts and then reserve your place with the blue “Book Your Place!” button. \nFAQs: \nDo I need to be an experienced off-roader to participate?  Absolutely not! We encourage riders of all abilities to have a go and it is aimed at novices. A lot of the off-road section is over well-surfaced trails and any really tricky sections can usually be crossed walking alongside your bike\, if necessary. \nDo I need a pukka off-road bike? We feel that any lighter weight road bike with reasonable ground clearance should be able to participate with care. Of course\, trail-type machines remain the ideal choice. Feel free to ask the run organisers for their advice. \nIs it a race?  Absolutely NOT! The idea is for members to enjoy an off-road riding experience\, taking as much time as necessary to complete the course\, or as much of it as they feel comfortable with. \nHow many routes are there? There is only one route for 90% of the run. However\, there are options between the Easy and Very Easy indicated by direction markers and the final part of the run (3 miles) splits into three final sections depending on your skill level: Beginner (tarmac)\, Intermediate (rough ground) or Expert (ford and narrow\, overgrown hill climb). \nWill there be a route sheet? At the start\, the OS Map 184 (Landranger Series) will be available for inspection. In addition\, the route will be marked on the morning of the run with triangle direction markers. SatNav GPX files will also be available. \nDo I need a VMCC eligible bike to take part?  It is preferred but not essential. \nCan family and friends watch?  Of course\, the route is clearly marked and everyone is welcome to join in at the pub. \nDoes my bike need to be Taxed and Insured?  Yes. All the byways and roads are classed as public roads\, so your bike needs to be legal. \nCan I park my trailer / van / motorhome at the start?  We hope so\, but we do not yet have permission to do this.  Please check back here nearer the time. \nDos and Don’ts \n\nDo invest in the OS 184 Map (LandRanger Series)\nDo be courteous to other trail users\nDo give way to all other trail users\nDo wear appropriate clothing\nDo stop and take lots of photographs\nDo enjoy our en-route hospitality\nDo fill up with petrol beforehand (nearest petrol is in Barford St Martin SP3 4AD)\nDo provide your own recovery as the Section is unable to help. Breakdown recovery vehicles will not be able to access certain parts of the route. DESCRIPTION:May Club night will be different to that published and will now be an evening run for those that wish to ride or a ‘Noggin and Natter Night for those who don’t. \nEither meet at 6.00 at Starbucks\, Babylon Hill\, Yeovil or at The Halsey Arms for 6.30. We will then go for a run of about an hour to arrive back at The Halsey for about 7.30. The run will be in a group or ‘drop off’ if numbers are greater. \nFor those not riding meet at The Halsey Arms at about 7.00. \nGood weather has been ordered specially\, so we hope to see you!

SUMMARY:VMCC National Relay Rally
DESCRIPTION:The Dorset Section checkpoint for this year’s Founder’s Relay Rally is Shillingstone Station.  The trustees have kindly given us permission to set up our table / gazebo in the car park  between 9:30 and 4:30. \nThank you to all those who volunteered to man our checkpoint for a couple of hours.  We’ve now put a rota together and we’re now arranging the weather for you. \nSo time to get your bike ready\, sort out a route with some mates and visit as many (or as few) Sections as you like.  More details to follow! 🙂 \n \n

DESCRIPTION:Our annual Bluebell Run. \n\n33 mile route from Okeford Fitzpaine Recreation Ground to the Round Chimneys Farm and Café at Boys Hill\, nr Glanvilles Wootton.\n11 mile route back to the start\n\nStarts at the Recreation Ground in Okeford Fitzpaine at 11am. The pavilion building will be open and there will be pain au chocolat\, croissant\, tea and coffee available. Get there well before 11am if you want to partake. \nThis run is about finding those elusive bluebells and\, as they have habit of growing in shady woods\, we have to navigate some poor and challenging roads.  Please take care on this run. \nBy downloading and using these GPX files on the run\, you agree to also picking up a Route Sheet that contains pertinent safety information on this run. DESCRIPTION:Note: this run is on Good Friday \nOur Hot Cross Bun Run starts of with…hot cross buns of course\, served together with a choice of tea or coffee.  So come along to the start at Okeford Fitzpaine Recreation Ground where you’ll find the pavilion open for signing-on\, toilets etc. \nThe run starts at the usual time of 11:00am\, but get there earlier to sign-on and even earlier if you’d like teas\, coffees and those delicious buns — they’re available from 10am.  Please add a donation to the pot. \nOnce you’re back on your bike at 11\, the outward journey is a 40 mile run to The Ginger Piggery & Ginny’s Cafe in the Wylye valley.  The return route back to the start is 27 miles. \nBy downloading and using these GPX files on the run\, you agree to also picking up a Route Sheet that contains pertinent safety information on this run. SUMMARY:Blandford Run
DESCRIPTION:The Blandford Run takes place on Sunday 2nd April and will commence from the Corn Exchange in the Market Place at Blandford Forum. \nThe run starts at 11am and free tea or coffee and biscuits will be available for club members from approximately 10am within the shambles area of the Corn Exchange.  Dorset Council has introduced charges on Sundays for all car parks under their management\, including the Blandford Market Place. Please park within the area defined by the bollards immediately in front of the Corn Exchange. \nThe outward route covers 44.9 miles to a lunch stop at the Witchampton and Critchel Club\, where a roast dinner will be available for £11.95; a room behind the bar has been allocated for our use. Please tell the run organiser at the start of the run if you would like lunch so that the Club can be informed of likely numbers. We hope that snack meals will also be available. The afternoon run\, of 12 miles\, takes us back to Blandford via an ice cream parlour for those wishing to purchase an ice cream or enjoy a walk along the river. \nThe Section is asking for a contribution of £3 towards run expenses. \n
