Photos from Halloween Run 2023

:

Eight keen souls signed on for the run. The weather forecast gave only a low probability of showers in the morning, with heavier rain after 3.00 pm. As it turned out it was a dry ride to The Ginger Piggery, but at the time I left the lunch stop I caught some light rain when I got on the A30 and heavier rain within 2 minutes from home. To me that’s quite acceptable, to arrive at the lunch stop dry, and perhaps get wet going home. But with only 8 riders obviously many regular riders had other opinions! I suppose bike cleaning comes into the decision making as well.

The sun was shining and it was quite warn at the start, so most of us sat outside the station café, until we were engulfed in diesel fumes from a shunting engine warming up, why he couldn’t move down the track I don’t know.

The run was quite brisk until we neared the Ginger piggery, there we encountered some damp shady areas with wet leaves, but we managed OK, and I encountered no horses. A couple of riders had some navigation errors, I hasten to add, not down to my route sheet. Poor old Richard Mills arrived when half the gang was leaving.

It was nice so see a number of our non-combatants at Shillingstone station. I remember seeing Pete Bovinizer, Gabby Hunt, Cliff Gray and Peter Hallowes. Our ex Secretary Mr. Wirdnam was dressed for riding, but chose not to do the run. He has a newly acquired MZ ( that’s not going to end well!.. Andy) so perhaps just a run around the block to check it out.

Thanks to Ray and Paul W for the photos.
