Photos from the Autumn Leaves Run 2023

Not a bad gathering considering the sudden change in the weather. It was cool when I left home, but Mick Sobalak (Norvin) left his place near Christchurch at 7.30 and was warned of ice on the road. However when we started the run the temperature had risen to a balmy 8°C. 15 people signed on and the Virginia Ash did us proud with a bacon butty and coffee for £5. We all made the start OK but soon ran into an equestrian gathering on the way to Wincanton a bit of a wait until passing cars sorted themselves out, but no dramas. Pretty straight forward lively run to Yandles café at Martock. If you haven’t visited their woodworking tool shop before (open on Sundays) you have missed a treat. Certainly not the cheapest, but the most comprehensive range of tools I have ever seen. After refreshments we set of for the return run. Sorry guys but my route instruction around South Petherton were somewhat in error. For some of us Andy Grew came to the rescue and led us to the roundabout near Lopen and the road to Dinnington. I have amended the route sheet should we repeat the run in a future year. The Dinnington road and Andy’s rescue route were the only gravely muddy bits of the return. We had a couple of fast sections of A30 and some slower back roads from West Coker to avoid going through Yeovil on the way back to the Virginia Ash.
