An unedited report from our Ariel-hating Chairman! You would have thought he would have got bored of it by now, but no, the jokes (?) keep on coming 🙂

One of our longest-standing events, the Border run started this year from a boiling hot Shaftesbury, at the top of Gold hill. Despite the distractions of the Graham Walker run, a Sunbeam MCC event at Beaulieu, the superbikes at Thruxton, Popham autojumble and a Vincent OC event nearby, we still managed 18 riders, several with pillions, plus a junior rider in a sidecar. Several members rode over for the start too, which is always appreciated.
The slightly earlier start time, instigated by the predicted high temperatures, certainly didn’t seem to be an issue and our intrepid road warriors set off on a 64 mile route, taking in Cranborne, Fordingbridge, the New Forest and Old Sarum, before looping up over High Post and finishing at Ansty PYO.
Sadly, your correspondent suffered a mechanical mishap at around the 20 mile mark, a throttle cable malfunction ending any hope of further participation. The cable turned out to be a re-purposed Ariel item, little wonder it failed. However, several pictures were sent on to me, hinting that it may have been a successful route.
