Yesterday’s Tiddler Run will be remembered for all the wrong reasons  🙂 .  I couldn’t attend yesterday but I knew something was up when I saw something on Facebook along the lines “Had a good time on the Dorset Section’s Tiddler Run today despite the numerous breakdowns!”  🙂

When there is no route sheet and the leader repeatedly breaks down, there are bound to be problems… over to you Chris:

Hi Paul, Tiddlers Run : The Run to Forget.  Met up at Henstridge and had 9 sign on and a few called in for a chat. l got only a few miles until l broke down no spark, so Andy Grew took over. l think lan on the BMW had a running repair and Andy lost most riders by the time he got to Gillingham but most got there in the end except me.  Checking the bike over at Horsington l put my hat on forgetting l had put my hearing aids in said hat . After checking the bike, it was time to call a mate for breakdown van; now where are my hearing aids? Not in hat or anywhere l could see; 3 people spent a hour searching with no luck.  So l have a bike that may need Vape ignition sent from Germany and a 500 mile run in a couple of weeks unlikely (paid for £450) insurance claim on £4000 aids. Have had better days but hope the rest faired better, Ciao Chris

And Andy Grew’s perspective: 🙂

Well, after the sad demise of our Leader, I took over leading the run. We set off and although I had to wait at each junction, as most people couldn’t stay with the immense power of the mighty Gilera 124, the run was going quite smoothly. We even got through Compton Pauncefoot without being accosted by the woman who clearly thinks that motorcycles should not go past her house.

Until we got to the Redlynch crossroads, where we lost 2 of the group. After waiting for 10 minutes Andy Rae went back to see what had happened, but by the time he found them they were mobile again. So on we went, well not exactly, as we had to bump start 2 bikes that didn’t want to continue. Then we were off! I got to the Hunters Lodge and found I only had 2 bikes behind me. So we waited, and waited but no sign, so I took the honourable course of action and continued without them!

The merry band of three got to the Red Lion in Gillingham and were enjoying a well deserved drink, when the rest did arrive. Andy had taken them on a longer route, to ensure they got maximum enjoyment from the run! Well actually I hadn’t stopped at a junction thinking they knew the way.

After a break we all decided to abandon the route and get home whilst the bikes were all running. Surprisingly all of them started in the car park, hopefully everyone got home safely.

We are all looking forward to next years Tiddler Run, especially Chris!  Regards, Andy

I understand that Ian Clarke also suffered a breakdown on his BMW single, although this was quickly fixed.  And it goes without saying that William Webb had problems with his Honda. Sounds like this run was a Perfect Storm. 🙂  .  Many thanks Chris for organising it…I also look forward to next years….
