Photos from the Winter Run 2026

Call me a fair weather rider but after getting drenched on the way to The Udder I didn’t fancy slithering round wet lanes – especially as the weather was forecast to get worse. I therefore made a strategic withdrawal. Full marks to those that did the route especially Colin who chose to ride a Yamaha XJR1300.

Thanks to Bernard for organising the run, his report below, although I would take it with a pinch of salt as my clothing is still drying out!

The fearless 5, Andrew Rae, Colin O’Dell, Steve Baker, Di Walker and myself signed on for the winter run. We met at The Udder Farm Shop, East Stour. A few other souls came to see us off.

I had prepared an alternative main road route in case of proper bad weather, but we all chose the main circular run. I had checked the route last Thursday and there were 3 fairly muddy singletrack roads, so I made due note of this on the route sheet. However the heavy rain on Thursday night appeared to do a good job in washing a lot of the mud away. The forecast today looked pretty grim, hence the preparation for the alternative run. However, the rain was either drizzle or very light and there was very little standing water and I would say the temperature even mild compared to previous days, so a lot of you missed a very good run!

The route was similar to last year, roughly a 30 mile circular anticlock  on minor roads.  I had to change the route as the railway bridge between Buckhorn Weston an Templecombe was undergoing repair. We headed a little North through Horsington to get to Milborne Port, and back on our old route to Stalbridge, Fifehead Magdalen and back to the café. All except Andrew stayed at the Udder Farm Shop café for a enjoyable lunch.

Remember that our first lunch meeting is this Thursday 15 January, 12.00 at The Virginia Ash, Henstridge, BA80PL, hope to see you there – definitely in a car!
