Report on the GIANTS Run 2026

by

GIANTS, our  annual girder fork run was once again, a popular choice. All 100 spaces were filled in just a few days and people started to gather on the Friday before the event, camping in the field adjacent to Spire Hill farm; this tented community seemingly growing each year. Volunteers from the section led around 25 riders on a short shakedown run on brilliant Saturday weather, ending up at the newly reopened Old Ox Inn, Shillingstone, for a drink and food.

Sunday is GIANTS proper and seeing 100 girder forked machines lined up and ready to go is something our section can be proud of. A choice of expertly curated routes from Paul Wirdnam saw them either riding to Stourhead via Cucklington, about 37 miles, or East Creech tea rooms via Wareham, about 67 miles, before returning for a pleasant lunch and a complimentary special GIANTS ALE to take home.

Thankfully, no serious accidents this year, but secretary Andy Grew had plenty of customers for his breakdown van ride of shame and donations to the DSAA exceeded all expectations, our treasurer will update us all in due course.

The two Pauls would especially like to thank our section volunteers who helped with setup, parking and marshalling, not to mention the aforementioned van of disgrace! We are fortunate to live in such a beautiful place for riding old motorcycles and it’s nice to be able to share it with others. The number of positive comments from riders this year has been heartening.
