Many thanks to Peter Miller for organising another New Year’s Day Run; his report follows:

The weather proved relatively kind to us for this year’s run despite all the threats to the contrary. Heavy rain over previous days meant that the Stour had flooded many of its surrounding fields. However, the roads traversed by the run were largely unaffected although a meandering route down the road was sometimes required in order to follow a water free passage.

Both the cars and motorcycles followed the same route to Milborne St Andrew where the two went their separate ways. The cars turned left on the A354 to end up at the Tank Museum for coffee before heading back and a choice of lunch stop. The motorcycles turned right towards Dorchester in order to follow the Piddle Valley to The Halsey Arms. Most riders completed the 29.4 mile run in good time and arrived at the pub before it had opened. The suggestion that the run should have been made longer was refuted as it appeared that the cold and damp conditions were beginning to have a numbing effect on fingers. Most were keen to go into the pub as soon as it opened either to enjoy a carvery lunch or to socialise at the bar.

We had 13 riders on the run raising £65, which was passed to the car event organisers to be included with the sum to be presented to the Air Ambulance at a future date.
