Photos from the Spring Run 2026

My fault, I forgot about Mother’s Day when planning our calendar back in October last year so a lot of us were confined to barracks. Shame because I enjoy this run and Dunkerswell is a good destination. Many thanks to Bernard who has already organised 3 runs this year and March is not yet out. If you would like to help out by organising one of these runs next year I’m sure Bernie would be grateful. His report on an eventful day below.

Oh Dear, bad choice of date. Best we don’t organise runs on Mother’s Day! A few riders came to Warden Hill for a coffee and see us off, before departing for Mother’s day commitments. Plus, the weather forecast was not exciting, so only 8 riders signed on. I should have checked the route closer to the run date as quite soon we found the road in Evershot was closed, so I took the next turning off the A37. That was a disaster as it led us back on the A37. Next turning was OK and I recognised the route through Halstock to West Coker, which got us on to the A30 and all was OK. The group I was leading or misleading, did not include Ron and Caroline Barns. I had spoken to them at Warden Hill and believe they had the lunch stop post code; however, I did not see them again, I do hope all is OK with them.
We proceeded through Crewkerne and Chard, then turned off north, crossed the A303 to go west on the back roads to Hemyock, then south to our destination at Dunkerswell, When our little group arrived at the Aviator restaurant, we met a certain MZ rider about to leave. Evidently the Evershot road closure did not present a problem to him, as the pavement was open and a narrow bike could just squeeze through! Our group, Barry Wilson, Colin O’Dell, Colin Seabrook and myself enjoyed a fine soup and good natter.
By the time we left, the weather had turned, visor visibility was poor I had difficulty reading the route sheet or seeing the odometer and I went wrong somewhere after Broad Windsor and got lost. We ended up going all the way south through Maiden Newton and back up the A37 to Warden Hill. Riding up the A37 was pretty hairy, with a very strong cross wind, but we made it OK. Colin O’Dell and I were treated by Barry to a hot chocolate, thanks Barry! Quite an adventurous day.

Our next run is the Hot Cross Bun Run on Good Friday 3 April at LO’s Coffee Shop, Stud Farm, Pimperne, DT11 8XA. Breakfast this Saturday 10.00 at The Old Brewery, Gillingham and breakfast every Tuesday at Spire Hill Cafe, Sturminster Newton, DT10 2SG

AT THE TRADING POST, WARDEN HILL
