Pictures from the Lawrence of Arabia Run 2017

Good weather meant a big turnout for the VMCC South Dorset Section’s annual Lawrence of Arabia Run, with riders coming from many of the surrounding Sections (Isle of Wight, Dorset etc).

No maps to follow as the drop-off system was used…and worked well with no lost riders.  And as far as I know, no breakdowns or accidents.  Only complaint was that it was about 3 degree too hot but we shouldn’t complain about good weather… 🙂

Gathering for the start at the Spitfire Club in Crossways:

Coffee Stop at West Holme Garden Centre:

Lunch Stop at The Pulpit Inn at Portland Bill:

Finishing back at the Spitfire Club in Crossways.  Perhaps the biggest surprise of the day was that all three VMCC Dorset Section riders who took part each won a prize:

From left-to-right:

  • Paul Wirdnam: Most Desirable Bike (1935 Ariel 600cc Square Four OHC)
  • Phil Allen: Best Bike (1936 Sunbeam 500cc Model 9 OHV)
  • Ken Druce: Oldest Bike (1932 Sunbean 500cc Model 9 OHV)

Great day for everyone who took part!

Thanks Paul for a fine array of images and some happy prize winners. I was sorry I could not join in on the run.
As a Rudge rider, I would be delighted to know who owns that Rudge special.

Thanks Alan…you missed a good day. I’m fairly sure the Rudge turned up with the group of riders from the Isle of Wight section. Sorry, no idea of the owner’s name but if you got in touch with someone from that Section, I’m sure they could help you.

Phil Allen received this email (and photo) from Anne and Nick Frisby of the South Dorset section — Nick was the route leader. Had to laugh when I read this:

    Hi,

Some of your members completed our Lawrence of Arabia run and won most of
    the prizes!
