Photos from the March Hare Run 2026

An improvement this weekend as it only drizzled all day instead of chucking it down, although it was quite foggy heading up to Frome. The hole in the road above North Brewham is still there and growing, it’s the size of a tank trap now. Still, it’s only been there since last November so we can’t expect miracles from the council!

We were pleased to welcome new member, Bob, riding a very shiny Triumph T140, although he is a friend of Andrew R we won’t hold that against him. Also good to see Ray and Linda giving their new Ural outfit its first outing.

It was a good run despite the weather so thanks to Bernard for organising it and finding another cafe, although they were a bit short on food. By the time I got to the front of the queue there were only 2 sausage rolls and a vegetarian pasty left. Bernard’s report below.

A very good turnout, 18 members signed on, if the weather had been better, we may have had more. I checked out the run on Thursday and the sun shone all day. but Saturday was cool and it was like riding in a cloud, no rain but 99% humidity, I think the word is “mizzle”

From our start at the Hillbrush restaurant in Mere we set out north and west to Bruton, then north to Evercreech and Doulting, crossing the A361 we headed into what for me was new territory, working the back roads via Leigh upon Mendip, and Vobster to our lunch destination, “Tucker’s Grave” near Faulkland.

Of our 18  riders there was a contingent from the Andover area, who unfortunately got lost, so shortcutted to Tucker’s and made straight for the Inn to checkout the Cider, most of the others made for the café. The return run took us down via Mells to join the A361close to Nunney, unfortunately this took us past Whatley quarry, although not operating on Saturday still left a 3 mile trail of thin slurry on the road, making for cautious riding and mucky bikes. From the A361 we headed south on the Maiden Bradley road back to Hillbrush. 6 of us stayed for further refreshment before heading home.

Our next run, again organised by Bernard, is next Sunday 11.00 from The Trading Post, Warden Hill going to Dunkerswell Airfield. Remember our March Club Lunch has been rescheduled to Wednesday 18 March, 12.00 at The Hunters Lodge, Wincanton.
