The annual Carole Nash Bristol Classic MotorCycle Show took place last weekend at the Bath & West Showground, Shepton Mallet and the Dorset Section had a stand as per usual. I’ll leave the words to Paul Miles (our Chairperson) and Andrew Rae (our stand organiser) who both did an excellent job over the full three days.
In addition to the money raised by Bettie mentioned below, we also raised a further £30 at the previous weekend’s Somerset Section’s autojumble by selling some magazines donated by John Adams. That money will also go to the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance — many thanks John.
Lastly, don’t forget that our March Hare Run is tomorrow, Saturday 5th.
Last weekend, we experienced a huge step back towards normality, with the Bristol Classic show returning to the showground at Shepton Mallet. Andrew Rae took responsibility for our stand and by the time I arrived on Friday (the setting up day), tatty Francis Barnett in tow, it seemed all but ready to receive visitors.
Our stand proudly displayed not just the sort of bikes we regularly see on our runs, but also some real rarities, including one of the oldest Triumphs in the world and the very bike Jim Alves rode to victory in the ISDT. Furthermore, our very own Betsy Barber worked tirelessly all weekend, serving cake and hot drinks in exchange for donations to the Air Ambulance. The final tally is yet to be completed, but she raised something in the region of £175, that’s a LOT of cake!
The show itself was very busy, people seemed delighted to be back and we were blessed with mild, dry weather. Our stand was packed all weekend, a testament to the work Andrew and his team put in on our behalf. Thank you everyone for your hard work, our stand was tremendous and let’s do it again next year!

I would like to say an enormous thank you to all of those who put so much effort into making the Dorset Section Stand at the Bristol Classic Show a great success, Firstly to Bette ( Head of Cake distribution ) whose gentle hinting along with the excellent quality of the cakes generated at an initial count £146 for the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance . Likewise thanks to the Ladies AND the Gentleman who kindly spent ages baking for our benefit, and to Herbie for the loan of his 1904 Triumph which formed the focal point of our exhibit, sorry if I avoid naming all of the generous chaps who brought along their various prides and joys without whom our presence would have been pointless, and not forgetting those who offered machines we did not have room for, try again next year, without you I would have to park an assortment of rusty MZs, no one wants that (even me)
Finally to Ray, Paul & Chris and all the owners who took time to remain on the stand fielding tech questions and offering advice to the many visitors wanting to know more about our fascinating hobby. Thank you to you all and I apologise if I have forgotten anyone.
Andrew Rae
