Bernard’s report on last Sunday’s run follows.  Photos by Bernard and Kevin Chapman

What a difference the weather makes, nice sunny day 13 signed on, my last run with only a treat of rain, one couple turned up. The Virginia Ash did us proud, opening early and serving coffee and a bacon bap for £5, looked like plenty of takers, so hopefully they would do that again. A fairly brink run on mainly B and minor A roads. Interesting when we got to Burton, my typed instructions took us through the town, but the Sat. Nav. boys took a short cut and ending up ½ mile in front of us. We caught them up, then at Long Sutton where we hit the A372 typed instruction took us left and shortly right on the mail road to Martock, whereas the Sat. Nav. took them straight onto a minor road, later to join the main road and we ending up in front of them! Good I thought, front of the queue at the lunch stop. Not to be, I stalled the Vin. In traffic in Martock, and then Jim Thornton on his Trident, stalled in sympathy. I had to wait for Jim as he was relying on me for the route. Lunch at Yandle’s was good, reasonably priced and slick service. Some new to the venue were somewhat taken aback by the fantastic woodwork tool shop. I ended up leading a group a 5 on the return run, only to get lost in South Petherton, but we ended up at the correct roundabout on the A303 and found our way onto the road to Dinnington OK, which I believe is part of the Fosse Way. Then I failed again with the wrong turning leaving Dinnington, got lost and separated from the group. I have since checked up with people and all the group got home OK. Perhaps in future guys won’t follow me, just because I planned the route ! and lastly I am pleased to say there were virtually no autumn leaves on the run!
