I expect you all realise by now that I am a devotee of Italian motorcycles, so I was very pleased to see a lot of exceptional Italian bikes at this years show. There were several that I have not seen before and one, the Ceccato, I had not heard of previously.
The featured photo shows a Moto Morini 250 DOHC racer from 1963, that I’m sure you remember from my talk came second in the World Championship to Jim Redmond on the Honda 4 cylinder. I think if the last race of the season was anywhere else but in Japan at Honda’s own track Tarquino Provini would have won the Championship.
The Cecatto’s pictured were made in the mid 50’s to compete in long distance road races that were popular at the time eg Milan-Taranto and Giro d’Italia. These engines were designed by Fabio Taglioni, the legendary engineer famous for his work for Ducati.
I did take some non Italian pictures also as some of the prize winning bikes had been restored to an exceptional standard. I was very impressed by the effort someone put into a Yamaha XS400, a bike that is not usually appreciated.
So I’m afraid there are a lot of pictures that are very red and very Italian, which I’m sure will be censored by our webmaster as he doesn’t appreciate true beauty. So enjoy them while you can! [webmaster edit: they all look like Ariel Red Hunters and imitation is the sincerest form of flattery]
