The weather Gods were with us, providing a sunny start to the run. We gathered at the Culverhays Car
Park in Sherborne, sadly no beverage facilities, but at least the toilets were open. 16 members signed on
and all set off without problem. Our run took us South to the outskirts of Leigh, then eastwards via
Cerne Abbas, the climb up to and across the “Top Road” and down to Piddletrenthide. The road
narrowed from here to Cheselborne but was fairly clean, however reaching Dewlish the road was both
narrow and mud covered. No incidents were reported, but a few comments were made especially a
regarding a nasty pot hole on the climb out of Dewlish. We turned north after reaching Milborne St
Andrews and headed toward Milton Abbas. Then a rouge party split off from the planned run, and I
believe went to the View Café at Milton Abbas. I know who was responsible, but no names no pack drill!
The rest of the group followed the planned route, down to Winterborne Stickland, up over Oakford Hill
where you get a magnificent view of Dorset West, down to Oakford Fitzpaine and finally to Shillingstone.
Not too busy at Shillingstone Station a cuppa and snack. First time I have been there since they lost the
main car park, but have coped OK even parking over ballast filled rails!

From the coffee stop we proceeded via Child Oakford northwards toward Todber, but turned off west
to Walton Hill south of Marnhull and hence to Warrbridge joining the A357 for a fast run down to Stock
Gayland and Kings Stag. Now heading west again to Holwell and south to our final destination The
Round Chimneys Farm Café at Boys Hill. Sadly only a small group made it to the café where we enjoyed a
light lunch.

Sorry we could not attend the ride due to family commitments but are concerned of the practice that seems to have become more popular of people signing on then part of the way through the ride going off as a group on their own. I find it very disrespectful to the organiser who has spent time and effort sorting out the ride. I accept some people can’t be out all day, but would have thought at least make an effort to get to the first coffee stop. We struggle to find run organisers and several have commented to me they wonder if it’s worth the time putting a run on if people are going to support the effort put in by the organiser. Ray
