Many thanks to Rod and Carol for arranging an excellent day out, perfect weather, great scenery and most important great cakes! Unfortunately there is no photo of me modestly accepting my trophy due to being the photographer! Report from Rod below.
The Jeff Clew Memorial Run took place on Sunday 2nd June. Starting from Leigh Village Hall this year 28 entrants signed on. A choice of two routes took riders to a mid run lunch stop at either Moreton or West Bay.
Dry and sunny weather afforded the riders the best of views from the many high spots along either route. Happily there have been no reports of any breakdowns.
Returning to Leigh the participants enjoyed much tea/coffee and sticky cakes before the prizes were handed out. Alison (Jeff’s daughter) had made a special trip from Rugby, as she does every year, and so was able to hand out the awards to the following:-
The Haynes Shield (Best Overall) = Lindsay PICKFORD = 1977 Kawasaki
Hinton Motorcycles Trophy (Best Veteran or Vintage) = John GUY – 1926 James
Bob Foster Trophy (Best Post Vintage) = Paul MILES = 1937 Rudge
John Brittain Trophy (Best Post War) = Rich KINSEY = 1949 Sunbeam
Clew Family Trophy (Best Velocette) = Colin BENTHAM = 1927 Velocette
The Denny Trophy (Best Threewheeler) = Bryan POPE = 1955 Ariel S/C
Mike Penn Award (Spirit of the Event) = Bridget VALANCE = 1967 Triumph
The Orman Tankard (Best Japanese) = Colin SEABROOK = 1987 Suzuki
The Hann Trophy (Best Unrestored) = Andy GREW = 1976 Laverda
Many thanks to Paul W for additional photos.
