Ken Druce waiting for the recovery man (me!)

One of our longer runs took place yesterday.  Dave Bramley put together a  very enjoyable 100 mile route starting from Sturminster Newton car park  with a lunch stop at Mill Café, Honeystreet nr Pewsey, Wilts and returning to Shaftesbury: a circular route around Salisbury Plain.  And in glorious weather as well. Many thanks Dave!

We had about 15 signing on at the start and travelling to Honeystreet, but by the time we got to Shaftesbury, we were down to approximately 5 of us with the rest peeling off at various stages to go home.  Some of us covered much more than the 100 miles; my Ariel colleagues from Swindon (Dave Owen, Tony Barnett and Pete Silson) had 75 miles just to get to the start!

I’m aware of only one breakdown. The exhaust valve on Ken Druce’s Model 9 Sunbeam decided to self-destruct; the inner spring collapsed and broke in several places and the outer one also partially collapsed, valve cap went missing and there looks to be damage to the guide.  This happened towards the end of the run on the A30…
