Photos from the Hot X Bun Run 2023

by

After a long dreary winter, I could not have hoped for better weather yesterday for our second Hot X Bun Run – it was glorious and that was reflected in the good turnout.

We had 24 people signing on and several of those had pillion passengers. Philippa and I had brought 30 hot X buns and all those got eaten. Many thanks to our good friend Rachel for helping out with the catering. And many thanks to all those who very generously added to the Donations Pot; we managed to raise £121 and I’ll suggest to our Committee that this gets added to our next donation to the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance.

Two notes of interest from me. Firstly, I managed to run over a grey squirrel that was darting all over the place and then eventually under my rear tyre. A couple of the people behind me said it wasn’t a pretty sight.  Sorry about that squirrel.  And secondly, Howgare Road between the A354 and Broad Chalke was in a very bad state.  It’s always been a bit bumpy but this winter must have made it much worse.  It’s a road I had planned to use for the long route of our GIANTS Run in May, but I think I need a rethink otherwise we might have a lot of broken girder forks.

Ginny’s Café in Boydon worked out well I think.  Plenty of places to sit outside in the sun and they seemed to cope well without huge queues and long waiting times.

Next run is another of mine I’m afraid.  Bluebell Run on Sunday 23rd April at 11am also starting from Okeford Fitzpaine Recreation Ground.  Philippa will be back but this time with pain au chocolats and croissants.  See you there!
