The gods shone upon us last Sunday. You can’t trust long range weather forecasts. Earlier in the week we were forecast a rather wet miserable Sunday, but by Saturday the forecast was sunshine and no rain and that’s how it was, although there was a fair bit of surface water on the minor roads from field runoff. 12 signed on, I had hoped for more, due perhaps to Mother’s day and the last minute weather change. South Dorset VMCC joined us at Warden Hill Trading Post, I didn’t get their numbers but it looked a fair turnout. They decided to stop at Warden Hill to partake in refreshment, so left a good time after we departed. It was an uneventful run to the Aviator café/restaurant at Dunkerswell. The exciting bit being the fast bends on the A30 at Yarncombe. I do think they could end the 30 mph zone nearer to the village! I was apprehensive about meal booking at the Café, I did not book, but there were no problems as most of us eat outside in the sun. One group took the wrong entrance into the airfield complex and did a tour of the industrial area. There was an unexpected surprised to find the East Devon VMCC already there, evidently a regular meeting point for them. Perhaps an idea for the future, to meet up with other section on runs? I and most others made their own way home, I followed the route right up to the A37 then pealed of towards Batcombe. Sadly on route on the A30 at Cricket St Thomas, there had been what look like a serious bike accident. A modern bike was upside down in the nearside ditch and police and ambulance crews were in attendance. Lets hope the rider was not too badly injured.
